David Ogden Stiers Theatre Remodel

David Ogden Stiers Theatre Remodel

David Ogden Stiers Phase VIIPhase 7 of the Entertain the Future! Capital Campaign to Expand and Enhance the Newport Performing Arts Center will enhance the Studio Theatre and expand backstage support areas.

The David Ogden Stiers Theatre is proposed as the official name for the enhanced and renovated Studio Theatre at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Stiers, celebrated and admired screen and television actor, was the Associate / Resident Conductor of the Newport Symphony Orchestra, as well as one of its founders and supporters. His leadership helped transform the Yaquina Chamber Orchestra into today’s professional NSO, with Adam Flatt, Music Director.

In addition to his support of the NSO, Stiers was an active and passionate supporter of OCCA, particularly its Summer Theatre Camps and Shakespeare Camp for youth. Over the years, he generously mentored young thespians in workshops that trained and encouraged Oregon coastal youth in the art of character development, vocal projection, and emotional commitment.

The new David Ogden Stiers Theatre enhancements call for $1.6 million in renovations to include a new seating system, enhanced sound, lighting, and acoustics, and improved HVAC for the theatre. It will be home to experimental theater, premiering original plays, literary readings, storytelling, piano performances, dance recitals, cabaret-style jazz ensembles, international musical events, and a broader youth theatre. It will also enable simultaneous programming with the adjacent Alice Silverman Theatre.
