Red Octopus Theatre Company and director Barbara Berge seek six actors for their upcoming production of Ernest Thompson's Tony Award-winning play, "On Golden Pond".
This is the love story of Ethel and Normal Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. Their tranquility is interrupted when they are visited by their daughter and her fiancé who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. Heartwarming and humorous, On Golden Pond won three Tony Awards in its original Broadway run, and the 1981 film adaptation received 10 Oscar nominations.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00pm, with additional auditions and callbacks on Sunday, March 3rd at 2pm. Actors need not prepare a monologue, but will be asked to read sides from the script and should be prepared to stay for the duration of the auditions (approx. 2-3 hours).
Sides will be available beginning Monday, February 25th. They may be picked up in person from the PAC administration office during normal business hours, or requested from the director via email (email@example.com) after February 25th.
The production runs July 19 - August 4, 2019 in the Alice Silverman Theatre at the Newport Performing Arts Center. Rehearsals begin in May.
Available Roles: (4 M, 2 F)
NORMAN THAYER (M, 79) – A retired professor with heart palpitations and a failing memory, Norman has a tart and sometimes savage sense of humor and always eager to spar with those he comes in contact me.
ETHEL THAYER (F, 69-70) – A perfect foil for Norman, Ethel is energetic and fills the empty spaces when he grows quiet. She can hold her own with Norman and delights in all the small things that enrich their life.
CHELSEA THAYER WAYNE (F, 40’s) – Daughter of Norman and Ethel, Chelsea is energetic and nervy with a tart humor like her father with whom she has a difficult relationship.
CHARLIE MARTIN (M, 40’s) – Charlie the mailman, was and probably still is, in love with Chelsea. Charlie laughs a lot and not always appropriately in places, but he is a big-hearted, simple man.
BILL RAY (M, 40’s) – Bill is Chelsea’s fiancé. He is an attractive, rather serious man but with agood sense of humor when he remembers to use it.
BILLY RAY (M, 13) – Billy is Bill’s son. Bill hides his awkwardness with flippancy. However, he is eager and bright and initially not at all happy that he has been ‘dumped’ for the summer with these two old people.
