Buy tickets online to National Theatre’s presentation from London of "King Lear" at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the Newport Performing Arts Center (PAC), 777 W. Olive St. in Newport.
Broadcast live from London’s West End, see Ian McKellen’s "extraordinarily moving portrayal" (Independent) in the Chichester Festival Theatre’s production, which received five-star reviews for its sell-out run, and transfers to the West End for a limited season. Jonathan Munby directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play.
Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, "King Lear" sees two aging fathers – one a King, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.
National Theatre Live is an initiative by the UK’s National Theatre to broadcast live performances onto cinema screens around the world. Since its first season, which began in June 2009, millions have now experienced the National’s work on movie screens worldwide.
OCCA appreciates the support of the Jeannette Hofer Fund at the Oregon Community Foundation and the City of Newport, as well as individual event sponsors, which makes it possible to show NT Live in HD productions at the PAC.
Ticket prices are $16 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $11 for students. Buy tickets online (look for the "Purchase Tickets" button above), at the PAC box office or by calling 541-265-ARTS (2787).
