North Coast Brewing Company (official Oregon Coast Jazz Party brew) hosts a Brewmaster Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 4 to benefit the Oregon Coast Jazz Party. Starting at 6:30 p.m., North Coast’s fine artisan beers will be paired with cuisine by Clearwater Restaurant (325 SW Bay Boulevard in Newport).
The Oregon Coast Jazz Party celebrates 15 years of jazz this year, with the theme of "Honoring Women in Jazz." Set for Oct. 5-7, this event brings world-class jazz to the central Oregon coast in the “jazz party” format, which means that visiting musicians will appear in different combinations at different times, known as "sessions," over the course of the jazz party. Performances are held at the Newport Performing Arts Center in Newport, Oregon.
The menu begins with tastings of Cowgirl Creamery's Mt. Tam cheese paired with Steller IPA and Cypress Grove's Humboldt Fog paired with Le Merle Saison.
The first course is a grilled peach salad with asparagus, Laura chèvre cheese and Saba reduction, paired with Passionfruit-Peach Berlinerweiss, followed by seared jumbo prawns with truffle pasta cake and port wine sauce, set off by PranQster Belgian Golden Ale. An intermezzo follows, featuring North Coast's Cranberry-Quince Berlinerweiss.
The main course of roasted petite lamb chops is served with with mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts and cabernet demi-glace, paired with Red Seal Ale, followed by brownie sundaes for dessert, paired with Old Rasputin Imperial Stout.
A special opportunity will be available to all residents coming from Toledo. The charter boat Umatilla II will leave from the downtown Toledo dock at 5 p.m. and deliver the diners to Clearwater Restaurant. The boat will then take the guests back to Toledo after the fundraiser. There is no charge for the boat ride but reservations are required, at 541-265-2787.
All reservations, dinner and boat, must be made in advance by calling the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts, the founding organization of the Jazz Party. Call 541-265-2787 for details. Limited seating is available for the Brewmaster Dinner; cost per person is $65; deadline for reservations is Oct. 1.
Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) is the organizational sponsor of the international event, and partners with local businesses and more than 60 volunteers in the production of the jazz party.
