Buy tickets online to National Theatre’s presentation from London of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8 at the Newport Performing Arts Center (PAC), 777 W. Olive St. in Newport.
Caesar returns in triumph to Rome and the people pour out of their homes to celebrate. Alarmed by the autocrat’s popularity, the educated élite conspire to bring him down. After his assassination, civil war erupts on the streets of the capital.
Live from The Bridge Theatre in London, Nicholas Hytner’s production will thrust the audience into the street party that greets Caesar’s return, the congress that witnesses his murder, the rally that assembles for his funeral and the chaos that explodes in its wake.
Ben Whishaw ("The Danish Girl," "Skyfall," "Hamlet") and Michelle Fairley ("Fortitude," "Game of Thrones") play Brutus and Cassius, David Calder plays Caesar and David Morrissey is Mark Antony.
National Theatre Live is an initiative by the UK’s National Theatre to broadcast live performances onto cinema screens around the world. Since its first season, which began in June 2009, millions have now experienced the National’s work on movie screens worldwide.
OCCA appreciates the support of the Jeannette Hofer Fund at the Oregon Community Foundation and the City of Newport, as well as individual event sponsors, which makes it possible to show NT Live in HD productions at the PAC.
Ticket prices are $16 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $11 for students. Buy tickets online (look for the "Purchase Tickets" button above), at the PAC box office or by calling 541-265-ARTS (2787).
