The OCCC Foundation is proud to present Bi- on Thursday, May 24, at 7pm, as part of the Williams Lecture Series. Performed by Milagro, the bilingual English/Spanish play runs approximately one hour and will be followed by an interactive workshop designed to help attendees explore the concept of identity.
What is your bi-dentity? The year is 2089 in Tierra Plana, a new nation where individual categories are pre-determined. Four friends, Fig, Noir, Isa, and Hex, escape the walls and discover mysteries of the past left in boxes from the U.S. Census Bureau. This new bilingual play explores space and perspective, drawing inspiration from Edwin Abbot's book Flatland.
Bi- (be) is about embracing the complexity of the greatest bipedal organism: the human. Inspired by Edwin Abbott’s novel Flatland, Bi– will break open the boxes of selective classification and raise the question: “What is your ‘bi-dentity?”
The Williams Lecture Series is funded through donations to the OCCC Foundation. The fund was initially established by Wendy Williams in honor of her late husband, William Appleman Williams, in order to “provide a forum, an opportunity to bring individuals to the campus that will challenge received opinion, stimulate discussion among students and in the community at large, and introduce new ideas, whether intellectual or practical.”
