Directions: Google Maps and other online mapping programs can have a problem directing you to the VAC. Here are the easiest directions to follow: heading north or south on Hwy. 101, turn west on NW 3rd St. Proceed straight down the hill. At the second stop sign, turn right. One short block later, turn left under Nye Beach archway. Proceed straight to Nye Beach turnaround and parking lot. The VAC is the large blue and gray building off the turnaround. To director offices and upper parking lot: turn west of Hwy. 101 at NW 3rd St. Head down hill. At second stop sign, continue straight 1.5 blocks, with the Sylvia Beach Hotel remaining on your left. The VAC administrative offices can be accessed through the smaller, upper parking lot.

Event Description:

The Newport Paper & Books Arts Festival is gearing up for its 23rd year as the largest festival of its kind on the West Coast. The 2018 festival will be held April 20-22, with 20 workshops offered by 10 different instructors. The OCCA-presented festival is based at the Newport Visual Arts Center, with workshops held at the VAC as well as other venues in Newport. Email npaf@coastarts.org to receive the updated festival brochure, indicating which workshops are still open.

Newport Paper & Book Art Festival organizers are currently finalizing the festival brochure for distribution via regular mail in late-January. Festival registration is done by postmark (mailing date), so it’s important for interested attendees to add their name to the mailing list by emailing npaf@coastarts.org, and to respond quickly with their workshop preferences.

“It’s particularly important for Lincoln County residents to join the mailing list,” says OCCA VAC director Tom Webb. “Sometimes locals don’t realize that registration is done by mail and they might be as high on the list for their workshop selections.”

Festival instructors include John Nelson Arbuckle, Doris Arndt, Patricia Edmonds, Glenda Goodrich, Patricia Grass, Dolores Guffey, Margo Klass, Moe Snyder, Jill Timm and Jacqueline Wygant.

In other festival news, OCCA welcomes Sara Sigelkow into festival coordinator position. Sara is taking over for Khlo Brading, who enjoyed three successful years in a similar role.

For more information, email Sara at npaf@coastarts.org.
