Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra begins its 2017 - 2018 season with a Fall Concert Series that is likely to have the audience dancing in the aisles. This fun program includes the Overture to the Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai, the Libertango by Astor Piazzolla and an arrangement by Calvin Custer called The Best Of The Beatles. There is a little spookiness in an arrangement of John Williams’ movie music called The Magic of Harry Potter. And one can just sit back and dream with Robert Sheldon’s Appalachian Morning and Joao Donato’s Sugar Cane Breeze.
Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra is a community orchestra based on the central coast in Florence with players coming from as far north as Lincoln City and Salem, east as far as Springfield and from the south as far as Port Orford. This fall ensemble has a nice addition with two Siuslaw High School students; Audrey Lowder on flute and Margot Fleming on violin. New to us this season are Valerie Farris of Salem on violin, Erin Gordenier newly arrived in Florence, on viola, Jim White on trombone, Cathy Dietz, clarinet both of Florence, and Alysia Knapp of Springfield on piano and tympani.
All concerts this series are in October. The first is in Reedsport at the Reedsport Church of God on Sunday the 15th at 2 p.m. The second is in Yachats at Yachats Community Presbyterian Church on Friday evening the 20th beginning at 7 p.m. The final concert is in Florence on Sunday the 22nd at Florence Community Baptist Church at 2 p.m.
