Event Description:

The 7th Street Players return to the Newport Performing Arts Center to showcase The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood on June 1 and June 2 at 7:00 PM. This production flips the classic legend of Robin Hood, creating an engaging combination of whimsical comedy and wit for the whole family. General admission tickets are $6.

About the show: It sure is hard to be humble when you’re a swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero. But our gallant guy-in-green tries his best as he swaggers through this frantically funny retelling of the classic. This time around, the legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (oddly obsessed with skin conditions); an ever-scheming sheriff who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bulls eye; a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monarch wannabe; and the good-natured “Town’s Gals” who manage to make their way into every scene, whether they belong there or not. Combine them with a band of Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you’ve got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won’t soon forget.

The 7th Street Players is a unique community theater company in which elementary and middle school students, under the careful mentorship of adults, perform all acting and crew roles for each production. Most of the cast and crew are 4th through 8th graders from Sam Case Elementary School and Newport Middle School. The production’s director, Kaleb Raever, is a local high school student.

Spend time with family and support local students by attending The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood! “We worked really hard on this play, and we are all really committed to it. We want people to come, enjoy the play, and see what we’ve done,” explains Grayce Williver, the Lady in Waiting. You don’t want to miss this hilarious production!
