Our final conceert of the season features NW legendary bassist Dave Captein with pianist Greg Goebel
Dave Captein is an accomplished performer on both string bass and bass guitar, having worked as a professional musician for over 35 years in the Pacific Northwest. A Portland native, Dave has performed in a broad range of situations, from symphonic performances to studio and club work, as well as many jazz concerts and festivals around the country and in Europe. He has worked with many well-known jazz artists. He freelances in the Portland area, and is a very active member of the music community there, frequently appearing in the city's many clubs and concert venues, as well as recording studios. He is a favorite choice for the region's many bandleaders and always in demand for his solid sound, time and feel, as well as his soloing abilities. He has played on numerous local artists' CD's, as well as nationally distributed releases.
Greg Goebel was born in Oregon and began playing piano and composing music from an early age. While at the University of Oregon, he received numerous awards including a Composition award in Downbeat Magazine. Greg then moved to Portland, OR where he quickly became one of the most in demand pianists in the area. His musical style, “rich with subtle complexities and harmonic surprises” make him a distinct voice among jazz pianists today. Goebel has recorded and toured extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan. As a member of the David Friesen Trio, his work can be heard on Friesen’s 2009 CD, Five and Three, the 2011 CD, Circle of Three and the 2013 release, Brilliant Heart. Also as part of the Portland Jazz Quintet, Goebel can be heard on PDXV Vol. Iand Vol. II. Greg also leads his own group featuring Rob Davis on saxophones, Dave Captein on bass and Todd Strait on drums. His debut album, Rainy City, was released in August 2013.In addition to keeping a busy schedule in Portland, Goebel has had the pleasure of performing with notable musicians such as John Handy, Dick Oatts, Terrell Stafford, Larry Koonse, Houston Person, Byron Stripling, Pete Christlieb, Rick Braun, Alan Jones, Gary Hobbs, Ron Steen, and many others
