Vessels can be functional or non-functional but all have a void that defines its structure. Learn ways to make hollow, three-dimensional sculpture through crochet. Build forms by seaming flat shapes, increasing and decreasing stitches, crocheting over a core, and using armatures or found objects as a base. Experiment with a wide variety of materials and techniques, including wire. Explore methods for attaching handles, feet, pockets, masts and decorative elements to your vessel. Crocheting without patterns is easier than you think!
Note on skill level: Students should be able to crochet a basic chain and a second row in any stitch.
