Event Description:

Vermeer and Music: The Art of Love and Leisure

London's National Gallery offers this major exhibition on one of the most startling and fascinating artists of all-time: Johannes Vermeer. This HD film shows at 2:30pm Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Newport Performing Arts Center, 777 W. Olive St. in Newport.

Vermeer, painter of "Girl with a Pearl Earring," painted little more than 30 works that still exist, and the National Gallery has chosen to focus on his art in relation to music. Music was one of the most popular themes of Dutch painting and revealed an enormous amount about the sitter and the society.

The event film goes beyond the exhibition to tell the entire story of Vermeer's life and, in doing so we show in detail many other of the artist's great works. The program will suit the wide audience who adore Vermeer's work and who want both to see it in detail and to learn more about this mysterious, fascinating man.

The film is part of EXHIBITION, a new theatrical series of events, bringing the world’s greatest art exhibitions to cinema screens worldwide. EXHIBITION will feature the world’s foremost upcoming art exhibitions, creatively captured especially for the big screen.

The EXHIBITION series began with a career-encompassing collection of the works of Edouard Manet on exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in April. The second exhibition focused on the work of Edvard Munch at the National Museum and the Munch Museum, both in Oslo, Norway. Each Event Film, hosted by art historian Tim Marlow, will go beyond the gallery with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.

PhilGrabskyfilms.com in association with Seventh Art Productions and BY Experience (pioneers of global cinema events), have created the series of ground-breaking art event films in partnership with DSAT Cinema.

OCCA appreciates the support of the Jeannette Hofer Fund at the Oregon Community Foundation and the City of Newport, as well as individual event sponsors, which makes it possible to show By Experience productions at the PAC.
