Become a Part of the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Archive
Mid-career Oregon artists from all 7 coastal counties - Curry, Coos, Douglas (Reedsport School District), Lane (Siuslaw School District), Lincoln, Tillamook and Clatsop Counties are invited to submit a proposal to exhibit in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artists Showcase (COVAS) in the 2014-15 cycle.
OCCA, the Regional Arts Council for the Oregon coast, invites mid-career visual artists from Curry, Coos, Lincoln, Tillamook, Clatsop and the coastal school districts of Douglas and Lane counties to submit proposals for a two month show in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artists Showcase at the Newport Visual Arts Center. OCCA will help each artist create a video about them and their art that will be shown on a touch screen computer next to the Showcase and become part of the Coastal Artists Video Archive.
Artists who meet the following criteria are invited to submit a proposal. The artist: is a visual artist producing works of art (for sale); has been a full-time resident of Oregon for at least 36 months prior to the application deadline and who, if chosen, will remain a resident through the duration of the exhibit; is a person 30 years of age or older at the time of application who can show evidence of seven or more years of active professional participation in his/her medium; and is not a student enrolled in either a part- or full-time degree-seeking program.
Download the full proposal here (as a Word document) or here (as a PDF), or use the links at right (just under the map, under the "Downloads" text).
The deadline for proposals is Saturday. November 23, 2013 (postmark or email date). An artist from each county will be selected by the OCCA Exhibition Advisory Committee from the proposals submitted. All artists will be notified of the committee’s decisions approximately 2 weeks after the proposal deadline.
The third series of Showcase exhibits starts in January 2014 and end in February 2014 with each artist showing for two months. The showcase furthers OCCA’s mission to promote arts and culture, to develop arts programs that expand awareness and to assist artists.
