Event Description:

Félim Egan, Erik Killops and Maldon Meehan invite you to rekindle that fire that was once ablaze in the cottages of Ireland as the Portland-based trio Bróg Crua returns to the coast performing their unique form of traditional Irish music and dance.

Bróg Crua reunites Irish music, song, and dance in its original context - the house concert! They combine accordion, fiddle, and dance percussion, with a good dose of Irish humor with renowned Sean Nos choreographer providing the back beat with her talented toe tapping style.

Félim Egan (accordion/vocals/composer) was born in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. His father’s passion for music and encouragement led him to begin lessons at the age of four.  His many musical influences include Matt Molley, Tommy Peoples, Charlie Lennon and Frankie Gavin, to mention a few.

Erik Killops (fiddle) is a Portland native who began playing fiddle at the age of 6 and began Irish fiddle lessons with Dan Compton in the 4th grade. He was influenced by the playing of local musicians such as Kevin Burke, Johnny Cunningham, and Johnny Connolly, and bands such as Patrick Street and the Bothy Band. In 2006 Erik began studying Irish music at the University of Limerick under the tutelage of top notch fiddlers such as Tommy Peoples and Frankie Gavin.

Maldon Meehan (feet): was born in Portland, OR and began dancing as a teenager. As a sean-nós dancer Maldon has numerous televised performances in Ireland and the U.S., operates her dance studio in Portland and travels the globe to perform and teach her craft.  Maldon is one of only a handful of sean-nós dance instructors in the nation.

This concert is a fundraising event for the Celtic Heritage Alliance which hosts events like these throughout the year, to include the annual Celtic Festival & Highland Games in Newport.  This, the 3rd Annual “Harvest by the Sea” event will be a combination concert and céili (kay-lee) dance where guests can enjoy the best of both worlds in celebration of the Celtic New Year.  This event is sponsored, in part, by the historic Yaquina Bay Hotel in downtown Toledo.

Witness the return of Bróg Crua on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 6:30 pm at the newly renovated Flowerree Community Center at 321 SE 3rd Street, Toledo.  For more information or to purchase advanced tickets online, please visit or call 541-574-9366.
