Explore this unforgettable painting experience found only at the Oregon coast! Using sand, found objects and collage materials, students develop beautiful surfaces on stretched canvas which reflect the rugged coastal landscape. Students learn color, collage and work from a non-predictable surface creating 3 or more large land-inspired paintings incorporating clay slip, sand and paint.
Returning sand painters encouraged to signup for Sand Painting 102. Free canvas building workshop held at instructor's Portland studio prior to class. Join this intense sand painting class taught by Judy Vogland at the Oregon coast for the past 34 years.
About the Instructor
Judy Vogland is an Oregon painter working in oil and water-based paint who continues to explore and teach the use of natural and found materials as surface makers. She has taught surface building with sand on the Oregon beaches for over thirty years. Students learn to create large paintings by working with beach sand and found materials manipulated by natural forces of wind, water and gravity. In addition to teaching at Portland State University, Haystack School, Hillsboro High School, and the Sitka Center, Vogland creates public space artwork, develops corporate commissions and currently works in collage/assemblage for gallery exhibitions. Judy will have an exhibition opening and artist talk at 7 pm on June 29 at the Rowboat Gallery in Pacific City with Taylor Vogland. www.judyvogland.com
