Event Description:

Explore the form of the book while contemplating the pervasive and powerful history of the medium. Learn about diverse contemporary and historical book forms and make your own series of books utilizing a variety of bookbinding techniques including stab-bound, accordion/ scroll, and single and multiple signature styles. Slide shows and other resources will provide a backdrop of historical and contemporary examples.


About the Instructor

Gala Bent has been an unabashed book lover for as long as she can remember. Traditionally bound books and experimental artist's books have been constant touchstones during her career as a painter/draftswoman, and she relishes any opportunity to teach about their history and construction. Gala has taught for more than ten years at university level, and currently teaches at Seattle Pacific University. Her work has been shown internationally, and has been featured in a variety of magazines and journals. She lives in Seattle with her husband and three sons.
