Only Puccini could turn a funeral into a comedy, and this one bubbles with glorious music, including the familiar “O mio bambino caro.” Filled with courtly dances, Purcell’s Baroque masterpiece tells the tale of Dido, Queen of Carthage and her Trojan hero Aeneas, whose love is interrupted by an evil sorceress and cackling witches. Program features 30 outstanding young singers, selected from throughout the nation.
