Event Description:

The 18th annual Newport Paper Arts Festival offers 17 classes over the three days of April 19, 20 and 21, given by 13 instructors.

"Nature Monoprinting with a Press"

Use plants and flat creatures on an inked plate to create a series of images using repetitive runs through a 30” etching press. Nature printing reproduces in exacting detail the features, veins, shapes and design of the object. Learn about design, balance, values, plant material selection, and inking methods. Create a series of nature prints that build on the design and values of the previous one. This class is in Toledo (8 miles from Newport).

Skill Level: All Levels; Class Limit: 8; Materials Fee: $25

"Nature Monoprinting with a Press" is taught by Heather Fortner, a Gyotaku and Nature Print artist who's been utilizing a 30-inch etching press to create mono printed images, and has taught classes in both mediums since 1986. Her work has been displayed in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan. She owns Orchid Street Studio West in Toledo, Oregon where she creates and teaches.
