Directions: Google Maps and other online mapping programs can have a problem directing you to the VAC. Here are the easiest directions to follow: heading north or south on Hwy. 101, turn west on NW 3rd St. Proceed straight down the hill. At the second stop sign, turn right. One short block later, turn left under Nye Beach archway. Proceed straight to Nye Beach turnaround and parking lot. The VAC is the large blue and gray building off the turnaround. To director offices and upper parking lot: turn west of Hwy. 101 at NW 3rd St. Head down hill. At second stop sign, continue straight 1.5 blocks, with the Sylvia Beach Hotel remaining on your left. The VAC administrative offices can be accessed through the smaller, upper parking lot.

Event Description:

The 18th annual Newport Paper Arts Festival offers 17 classes over the three days of April 19, 20 and 21, given by 13 instructors.

"Japanese Portfolio Boxes"

Learn to make a classic Japanese-style portfolio box with a sleek bone clasp and a loop closure. Cover it with provided book cloth, or bring your own. Personalize your box with insets and learn finishing details to make the inside as gorgeous as the outside. These elegant boxes can be customized to house books, papers, special collections and more for yourself or as wonderfully unique gifts.

Skill Level: All Levels; Class Limit: 10; Materials Fee: $15

"Japanese Portfolio Boxes" is taught by Moe Snyder, a 2007 graduate of Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland with a BFA in Book Arts and Drawing. She is only truly happy when her fingers are black with charcoal or sticky with glue, with her floor covered in snips of cloth and paper, string, shells, rocks and many other items.
