Directions: Google Maps and other online mapping programs can have a problem directing you to the VAC. One short block later, turn left under Nye Beach archway. Proceed straight to Nye Beach turnaround and parking lot. The VAC is the large blue and gray building off the turnaround. To director offices and upper parking lot: turn west of Hwy. 101 at NW 3rd St. Head down hill. At second stop sign, continue straight 1.5 blocks, with the Sylvia Beach Hotel remaining on your left. Event Description:

The 18th annual Newport Paper Arts Festival offers 17 classes over the three days of April 19, 20 and 21, given by 13 instructors.

"Complex Surfaces, Tantalizing Textures"

In this surface design class we will paint, stamp, emboss, rub, fuse, gild, salt, draw and manipulate paper to create stunning surfaces to use in mixed media, book arts or cards. Explore Pearl EX powders, Gilders Pastes, embossing powders and more to create layered, textured papers and take home a set of cards using your samples.

Skill Level: All Levels; Class Limit: 14; Materials Fee: $20

"Complex Surfaces, Tantalizing Textures" is taught by Cheri Aldrich, a full time artist currently dividing her time between mixed media, basketry and jewelry. Themes of nature thread through her work and a love of rich textures led her to mixed media. She is represented by six galleries and stores.
