Astoria Public Library and Astor Library Friends Association present Library After Hours, a free series of musical performances and discussions that take place after the library’s regular hours of operation.
The series begins with professional musicians/teachers Mary Rowell and Tatiana Kolchanova performing violin duets including selections from Leclair, Mozart, Bartok, and Prokofiev. Light refreshments will be provided.
Mary Rowell is a freelance professional musician and teacher in the Portland area. She has performed with Andy Stein of Prairie Home Companion fame, Al Stewart, Thomas Rheingans and David Golub from Chamber Music Northwest. Currently, Mary is Concertmaster of the Bach Cantata Choir Orchestra, subs with Portland Baroque Orchestra, and plays regularly at Portland Center Stage. She received her Masters in Music from Portland State studying with Carol Sindell.
Tatiana Kolchanova Ph.D is a graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and Laureate of the USSR Radio Competition. She worked as a violinist for the USSR Radio and Television Orchestra for 8 years and was first violinist of the Glinka State Quartet for ten years. She taught at the Moscow Conservatory, Moscow Conservatory's Academic Music College and Central Music School. Currently, Tatiana is assistant concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, plays with the Portland Opera and substitutes with the Oregon Symphony. She has taught violin and piano at the Classique Music Academy for the last 5 years, violin at the Rose City Academy for the last 3 years and at Racz European Violins Studio in Vancouver.
