Event Description:

Lincoln City Cultural Center welcomes an exhibition of oil, landscape and still-life paintings by Katia Kyte of Lincoln City in the PJ Chessman Gallery through Feb. 6.

Kyte spent most of her life in Siberian Russia. Her love for the outdoors was instilled early in her childhood. She has always spent a great deal of time hiking and closely observing her environment. This has led to a deep appreciation for remote locations and the unspoiled beauty of nature. The state of Oregon, with its natural splendor has become the main inspiration for her paintings.

Kyte's interest in art found early support when her parents sponsored her art education in a four-year after-school program where she was introduced to drawing, composition, and plein air painting. She later attended a linguistic university and graduated with a major in German. She is fluent in three languages: English, German and, of course, Russian. She immigrated to the United States in 2008.

Kyte paints from life with passion, trying to capture a profound feel for the values, color, and essence of a subject. She enjoys the lush texture of oil paint and brushwork which help her to express herself. Her goal is to see the world from a perspective of an artist and to translate that into expressive, poetic paintings that elicit an emotional response from the viewer.

Kyte lives in Lincoln City, Oregon with her husband Dave, family dog Ivan, and Zaika, a pet rabbit.
