Regina Carter Quartet

Medium:  Music

Artist's Website:

Violinist Regina Carter is a highly original soloist whose sophisticated technique and rich, lush tone took the jazz world by pleasant surprise when she arrived in New York from her native Detroit. And jazz fans weren’t the only people who heard that mercurial quality in her playing: artists as diverse as Faith Evans, Elliot Sharp, and Mary J. Blige have employed her talents on their recordings. She’s joined by pianist Xavier Davis, an accomplished bandleader, composer and educator; bassist Chris Lightcap, whose playing is featured on over 70 albums and who’s produced four critically acclaimed albums of original music; and drummer Alvester Garnett, who’s known for his “joy and spirited musical communication” in a long career of playing with such jazz notables as Betty Carter, Abbey Lincoln, and Pharoah Saunders.
