Music

As one of the primary performing arts, this website celebrates music in all its forms - from student-made to community-based and professional. Find events reflecting music of all styles - classical, chamber, medieval, vocal, jazz, rock, blues, roots, Celtic and more - played in a variety of ways - solo, duo, band, ensemble, group, symphony. Venues vary as well, from tiny corner cafes to huge auditoriums.

Individual music performances are posted as events and can be found in the event calendar. Contact information for music performances and classes can be found by viewing the individual events.

  • Met Opera: La Traviata

    In his first Live in HD appearance as the Met’s Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Michael Mayer’s richly textured new production, featuring a dazzling 18th-century setting that changes with the seasons. Soprano Diana Damrau plays the tragic heroine, Violetta, and tenor Juan Diego Flórez returns to the Met for the first time in five seasons to sing Alfredo, Violetta’s hapless lover.

    The Central Coast Chorale presents its annual program of holiday music at the Yachats Commons. Some familiar carols, some lovely holiday sentiments and at least one bit of musical humor will make this afternoon a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season and get you in the Christmas mood. Special guests Women of Note will join us as usual. A donation of $10 is suggested for admission. Hope to see you in South County!

    The Central Coast Chorale presents its annual program of holiday music at the Newport Performing Arts Center with a big plus. The centerpiece of the Newport concert with be a one afternoon only performance of Craig Courtney’s A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas with orchestral accompaniment. This humorous bit of Christmas fun will take us on a journey through the ages accompanied by horns, timpani and even a harp! In addition, some familiar carols and some lovely holiday sentiments will make this concert a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season and get you in the Christmas mood. As usual Women of Note will be our special guests. A donation of $10 is suggested for admission. Hope to see you in Newport!

  • Celtic Series: The Stomptowners

    The Stomptowners is a rare experience blending dynamic traditional Irish music with voice and hot Irish dance. This four piece ensemble uses Uilleann pipes, Irish bouzouki, fiddle, whistles, breathtaking vocals and driven foot percussion. The tradition comes to life with the all energy today’s audience craves. It is often said about The Stomptowners is that there is something for everyone. A typical performance includes smoking hot Irish and Scottish tunes, choreographed Irish dance, voice with foot percussion, arranged songs as well as evocative a cappella pieces. The Stomptowners repertoire is always kept fresh, alive and relevant to the season. Part of the LCCC’s first full season of Irish, Scottish, American and fusion music and dance from around the Celtic-verse.

  • Celtic Series: The Outside Track

    Winner of 'Best Group' in both the Live Ireland awards and the Tradition In Review awards, The Outside Track are one of the top Celtic acts in the world. They were 'Best Live Act' nominees in the MG Alba Scots Traditional Music Awards, and won the German Radio Critics Prize, for their album Flash Company. Live Ireland called them, 'Among the top bands in the world - stunning on every cut!'. The Outside Track’s marriage of Celtic music, song and dance has been rapturously received around the world. Hailing from Scotland, Ireland, and Cape Breton, its five members are united by a love of traditional music and a commitment to creating new music on this as a foundation. They blend fiddle, accordion, harp, guitar, flute, whistle, step-dance and vocals with breathtaking vitality. Their blend of boundless energy and unmistakable joie de vivre has won them a large following around the globe.   • Met Opera: Adriana Lecouvreur

    For the first time at the Met, Anna Netrebko sings the title role of Adriana Lecouvreur, the great 18th-century actress in love with the military hero Maurizio, sung by tenor Piotr Beczała. Gianandrea Noseda conducts Cilea’s tragedy, in a new staging by Sir David McVicar, with the action partially set in a working replica of a Baroque theater.

    Hailing from the Ulster city of Belfast, Realta is an award winning multi-instrumentalist group presents an enchanting program of dance music interspersed with the occasional story, air and song. While Conor Lamb and Aaron O’Hagan pursue the melody on uilleann pipes and whistles, guitarist and vocalist Deirdre Galway explores the harmony and rhythms within the tunes. All-Ireland champions Dermot Mulholland and Dermot Moynagh complete the line-up with dynamic accompaniments on double bass, bouzouki, banjo, voice and bodhrán, making this one of the most exciting acts on the Irish music scene today. Part of the LCCC’s first full season of Irish, Scottish, American and fusion music and dance from around the Celtic-verse.

    The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland's premier traditional bands. Their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, and original ballads and lullabies. Their music demonstrates to old and young alike the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. These versatile musicians have received worldwide accolades consistently over the years for their exuberant performances and outstanding recording efforts that seemingly can't get better...yet continue to do just that. The final concert in the LCCC’s first full season of Irish, Scottish, American and fusion music and dance from around the Celtic-verse.
