The Oregon coast fairly teems with interesting and vibrant people - some are here for only a week or a few months, and some live here. Some, if we're lucky, share their experiences via the spoken word, through lectures. Listening to these artists, writers, historians, teachers - in short, anyone who has something to share about their cultural experiences - enriches our lives.

Individual lectures are posted as events and can be found in the event calendar. Details on the lecturer, subject, venue and contact information can be found by viewing the individual events.

  • Ritual and Ceremony in Modern Life

    May 19th, 2018 to May 19th, 2018

How do we make meaning out of the big milestones in our personal and community lives? What is the role of ritual and ceremony? How are we affected by life events that pass unobserved? What new ceremonies are people creating to mark these milestones? This is the focus of “Ritual and Ceremony in Modern Life,” a free conversation with Holly Pruett on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m. This program is hosted by the Newport Public Library and sponsored by Oregon Humanities.
