  • Imbedded Collage

    December 3rd, 2016 to January 28th, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council welcomes Coos County artist Susan Lehman to the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Showcase (COVAS) at the Newport Visual Arts Center from December 3 to January 29. Lehman’s exhibition, “Imbedded Collage,” will include work from her current series of abstract seascapes and landscapes in which the artist employs strips of recycled silk kimonos along with various lace, fabric and wallpaper scraps within layers of acrylic paint. The public reception for “Imbedded Collage” will be held on December 3, 5-7pm at the VAC, with an artist talk scheduled for 6pm.

  • The Mayors' Show

    January 6th, 2017 to January 29th, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the "Mayors’ Show” in the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center from January 6-29. The "Mayors’ Show” includes eight Lincoln County artists selected by Newport Mayor Sandra Roumagoux, Toledo Mayor Billie Jo Smith and OCCA VAC Director Tom Webb, from among the 124 artists who contributed work to the 2016 “PushPin Show,” on display at the VAC during December 2016. A First Friday opening reception will be held on January 6, 5-7pm, at the VAC, and the artists will speak at 6pm.

  • Ready or Not: Sculptural Works by Dawn Stetzel

    February 3rd, 2017 to February 26th, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes Dawn Stetzel and her exhibition, “Ready or Not,” to the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center from February 3-26. Stetzel’s current work is specific to the Oregon coast, and “Ready or Not” is a collection of large-scale sculptural works made to navigate specific environments in order to explore notions of home, and perceptions of safety. Photo and video documentation will accompany the exhibition. The First Friday public reception opening for “Ready or Not” will be held on February 3, 5-7pm, with an artist talk at 6pm.

    February 3rd, 2017 to February 25th, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes Patti Johnson to the Upstairs Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. The exhibit of Johnson’s oil and acrylic paintings, “Flowers and Faces,” will be on display from February 3-25. The First Friday opening reception will be on February 3, 5-7pm, with an artist talk scheduled for 6:30pm.

  • Take A Look Portraits by Michael Ousley

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the “Take a Look” exhibition in the Coastal Artist Visual Artist Showcase (COVAS) at the Newport Visual Arts Center from February 3 to April 1. “Take a Look” will feature portraits by Langlois painter Michael Williams Ousley, who represents Curry County in the COVAS’ rotation of artists throughout Oregon’s seven coastal counties.

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is pleased to present the annual Yaquina Art Association members’ show at the Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC). The exhibit will include paintings and three-dimensional work created by members of the association, which is a partner organization in the VAC.

  • Portraits in Glass

    April 7th, 2017 to May 27th, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes glass artist and illustrator Jamie Boyd to the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Showcase (COVAS) at the Newport Visual Arts Center from April 7 to May 27. Boyd’s exhibition, “Portraits in Glass,” will feature kiln-formed glass and frit painting based on her original illustrations. Living in Astoria, Boyd represents Clatsop County in the COVAS’ rotation of artists from throughout Oregon’s seven coastal counties. A First Friday opening reception will be held on April 7, 5-7pm at the VAC, with an artist talk at 6:15pm.

  • The World Unmade

    May 5th, 2017 to June 4th, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes the exhibition, “The World Unmade,” by Roger Peet to the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center from May 5 to June 4. Peet will present large-scale linoleum relief and silkscreen print material with hand-painted elements and collage. The exhibit will also include a survey of his recent print works on paper. The First Friday opening reception for “The World Unmade” will be held May 5, 5-7pm, at the VAC, with an artist talk scheduled for 6pm during the opening.

  • Whale Song: A Giant Voice in a Sea of Sound

    May 5th, 2017 to July 1st, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the exhibition, “Whale Song: A Giant Voice in a Sea of Sound,” an installation of prints and audio recordings by Kris Elkin, in the Upstairs Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center from May 5 to July 1. Kris Elkin is a print-maker and graphic designer living in Central Oregon. A First Friday opening reception will be held on May 5, 5-7pm, with an artist talk scheduled for 6:30 pm during the opening.

  • Connecting US 20

    June 9th, 2017 to July 2nd, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts will host the exhibition, “Connecting US 20” by Sal Strom and Lynn Moyers from June 9 to July 2 in the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. The exhibition serves as the culmination of a 30-day community- and art-building road trip extending from Boston, MA, to Newport, OR—the entire length of US 20, the longest continuously numbered highway in the United States. The artist team of Sal Strom and Lynn Moyers will exhibit cheesecloth fiber-art works, safety-pin chain necklaces, maps, photos and other work from their trip. The opening reception for “Connecting US 20” will be on Friday, June 9, with an artist talk scheduled for 6:00pm during the opening.

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents “Constructions,” an exhibition of small sculptures by Coastal Douglas County artist David Anthony, from June 9 to July 29, in the Coastal Arts Visual Artists Showcase (COVAS) at the Newport Visual Arts Center. Anthony will showcase his steel and bronze works, along with abstract drawings, as representations of his broader sculptural work. A opening reception is scheduled for Friday, June 9, 5-7pm, at the VAC, with an artist talk scheduled for 6:30pm.

  • Just Imagine: Short Films from Newport High School

    June 9th, 2017 to July 1st, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts hosts “Just Imagine: Short Films from Newport High School” in the Media Room at the Newport Visual Arts Center from June 9 to July 1. Twelve films developed by 23 Newport High School students will be shown continuously during regular Media Room hours. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 9, 5-7pm, with students talking about their work at 6:45pm.

  • Hawks on the Highway: Prints from Crow's Shadow Institute

    July 7th, 2017 to September 3rd, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes the Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts for an exhibition of prints from their permanent collection from July 7 to September 3 in the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. “Hawks on the Highway” will include 24 prints produced by Crow’s Shadow’s roster of award-winning artists. An opening reception will be held on Friday, July 7, 5-7pm, at the VAC.

  • Needle and Crooked Knife: Exploring Northwest Art in Fiber and Red Cedar

    July 7th, 2017 to September 2nd, 2017

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the exhibition, “Needle and Crooked Knife: Exploring Northwest Art in Fiber and Red Cedar” by Tina McCann, from July 7 to September 2 in the Upstairs Gallery at the New Visual Arts Center. McCann’s exhibit will include masks and fiber wall art by the Depoe Bay-based artist. An opening reception will be held at the VAC on July 7, 5-7pm, with an artist talk at 6:30pm.
