  • Jaf Works: Creations by Jimmy Frankfort

    December 1st, 2018 to January 26th, 2019

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is pleased to present “Jaf Works: Creations by James Frankfort” from December 1 to January 27 in the Upstairs Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. “Jaf Works” is a look back at James Frankfort, an artist in the central Oregon coast region from the early 1980s through the late 1990s. The exhibition will focus on Frankfort’s drawings, prints, cartoons and other works on paper, along with representations of the artist’s paintings and mixed-media work. An opening reception for “Jaf Works” will be held on Saturday, December 1, 5-7pm, with relatives and friends discussing his work at 6:15pm.

  • Out of the Box: Contemporary Design in Feltmaking by Kathy Elfers

    December 1st, 2018 to January 26th, 2019

    The Oregon Coast Council for Arts welcomes Florence artist Kathy Elfers and her exhibition, “Out of the Box: Contemporary Design in Felt Making,” to the Coast Oregon Visual Artist Showcase (COVAS), from December 1 to January 26 at the Newport Visual Arts Center. Elfers works in the styles of wet felting, needle felting and Nuno felting, and she will present wall hangings, wall sculpture and 3D objects, some incorporating mixed media. An opening reception for “Out of the Box: Contemporary Design in Felt Making” will be held on Saturday, December 1, 5-7pm, with the artist talking about her work at 6:15pm.

  • The Mayors' Show

    January 4th, 2019 to January 27th, 2019

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the 2019 Mayor’s Show from January 4-27 in the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. The Mayors’ Show features nine artists selected from the 99 Lincoln County artists who participated in the 2018 PushPin Show during December. The eight artists were determined in consultation with incoming Newport Mayor Dean Sawyer, outgoing Newport Mayor Sandra Roumagoux, and OCCA VAC Director Tom Webb. A First Friday opening reception will be held on January 4, 2019, 5-7:00pm, with remarks scheduled for 5:45pm.

  • I Am My White Ancestors: Claiming the Legacy of Oppression

    February 1st, 2019 to February 24th, 2019

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts hosts the installation, “I Am My White Ancestors: Claiming the Legacy of Oppression,” by Portland artist Anne Mavor from February 1-24 in the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. Mavor’s installation includes 13 life-size photographic self-portraits printed on fabric panels, each accompanied by audio and written narratives from the perspective of each character. A First Friday opening reception will be held on February 1, 5-7pm, with Mavor discussing her work at 5:45pm.

  • A Ripple of Kindness: Drawings and Cut Paper by Vicki Idema

    February 1st, 2019 to March 9th, 2019

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes Corvallis-based artist Vicki Idema to the Upstairs Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. Idema’s exhibiton, “A Ripple of Kindness,” will run from February 1 to March 9, 2019, and will include drawings and cut paper works. A First Friday opening reception will be held on February 1, 5-7pm, with the artist speaking at 6:15pm.

  • Nature Meets Kelp Art

    February 1st, 2019 to March 30th, 2019

    The Oregon Coast Councils for the Arts presents “Nature Meets Kelp Art,” an exhibition featuring Brooking-based artist Sherryl Griffin, from February 1 to March 30 in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Showcase (COVAS) at the Newport Visual Arts Center. The exhibition will include kelp-based art objects, from baskets and flower vases to wall art and kelp photography. The COVAS Showcase features mid-career artists living on the Oregon coast, rotating through Oregon’s seven coastal counties, and Griffin will be representing Curry County. A First Friday opening reception is set for February 1, 5-7pm at the VAC, with the artist speaking about her work at 6:15pm.

  • Toledo Arts Guild: New Works

    March 1st, 2019 to March 31st, 2019

    The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts welcomes the Toledo Arts Guild for a group exhibit from March 1-31 in the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center. The exhibit will feature 14 guild members working in diverse media including but not be limited to fine art photography, painting, drawing, assemblage, ceramic sculpture, raku, porcelain wheel thrown vessels, and metalwork—all created within the last two years. An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 5-7pm, with artists speaking about their work at 6:00pm.
