The Central Coast Chorale was founded in 1997 by our director, Mary Lee Scoville, and a group of local residents who wanted to enjoy singing in a convivial yet professional setting. The Chorale has doubled in size and now can claim more than 65 voices. Membership is by audition and is open to anyone age 14 and up. The governing board of the Chorale is drawn from our singers. Community participation and input is always welcome.
We rehearse on Saturdays from late August to June, often at the Performing Arts Center in Newport or at the Newport First Presbyterian Church. We perform an annual Holiday concert in December known as Wishes and Candles and two concerts in the spring with varied content.
We sing a wide variety of works all the way from classical compositions like the 2014/2015 season's Fauré Requiem to up-to-the-minute works such as Eric Whitacre's contemporary piece "Animal Crackers" based on Ogden Nash's humorous poetry. It's always exciting to see what new and challenging works Mary Lee has chosen for us each season.
